Job Summary Under the general direction of the Managing Director, responsible for supervising the day to day activities of the Calhoun County Road Department and ensures compliance with approved policies and procedures. Supervises all daily road maintenance activities and equipment maintenance activities and oversees stockroom operations.
Starting Wage $66,309 – $80,499
Minimum Requirements The job requires knowledge normally acquired through the completion of a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Engineering, or a closely related field. A minimum of ten (10) or more years of experience in road construction and maintenance supervision or equivalent. Possession of a valid Michigan vehicle operator’s license.
Status Full-Time, Exempt
Bargaining Unit N/A

All new employees hired into this position are required to contribute to the MERS Defined Benefit at the current rate of 8.5%.

CCRD hiring road workers

The Calhoun County Road Department is accepting applications for full-time road workers and temporary road workers for summer road work beginning in mid-May or early June 2014.

Candidates must possess a high school diploma or equivalent, valid MICHIGAN Driver’s License, DOT Physical Card, and CDL Class B with Air Brakes (Class A preferred). Two years driving experience with heavy equipment preferred.

Duties include, but are not limited to patching, snowplowing, gravel road maintenance, tree cutting, culvert installation, general labor, truck and other equipment maintenance, and completion of applicable paperwork.

CCRD hiring a mechanic

The Calhoun County Road Department is accepting applications for a full time mechanic. Applicants must maintain a valid MI Driver’s License, CDL Class B with Air Brakes and DOT Physical Card. High school diploma or equivalent, specialized or technical training, and 3-5 years mechanic experience required. Experience in maintaining and repairing road operation vehicles, State of Michigan Master Auto/Truck Certification preferred.

Qualified applicants must possess the ability to:

  • Repair diesel and gas engines including automobiles, trucks, lawn equipment, loaders, agricultural equipment, and chainsaws.
  • Repair major power train components such as transmissions, differentials, transfer cases, clutches, and drive shafts.
  • Understand electrical charts and diagrams to install and/or repair 12 and 24 volt electrical systems.
  • Repair major hydraulic components on large equipment.
  • Diagnose causes of malfunctions and perform necessary repairs.
  • Abide by all MIOSHA and Calhoun County Road Department safety rules and regulations.

CCRC looking to hire seasonal truck drivers

The Calhoun County Road Commission (CCRC) has immediate openings for seasonal truck drivers in Calhoun County, starting in November and lasting through March, 2013.

The pay is $14 per hour. This is a work “as needed” position; there is no guarantee for a 40 hour work week.

All candidates must maintain a valid Michigan Driver’s License, CDL, Class B with Air Brakes and DOT Physical Card.

Duties include, but are not limited to: maintaining truck, equipment and paperwork as necessary on the job, and road maintenance including patching, plowing, scraping of roads and general labor. Hours and work shift may vary based on weather and needs.

Applicants must have a minimum of two (2) years driving experience and a high school diploma in order to apply for this position.

A Road Commissioner Selection Committee has been formed by the Calhoun County Board of Commissioners.

They are seeking applications for a Road Commissioner/Parks Trustee/Member of the Board of Public Works for the period of Jan. 1, 2012, to December 31, 2017.

The road commissioner applications are due on or before November 21, 2011.
