Construction season kicks off in Emmett Township

Construction season has begun at the Calhoun County Road Department, and our first projects start in Emmett Township!

The stretch of B Drive North from 8 1/2 Mile Road to 11 Mile Road is being pulverized and resurfaced beginning Monday, May 6, 2013. A few weeks later, Harper Village Drive from B Drive North to 6 1/2 Mile Road will be milled and resurfaced. Both projects are expected to be complete by late July.

Pulverizing a road is when the existing road material is ground up and mixed with the gravel below.
The resulting mixture is densely compacted and then resurfaced with new hot mix asphalt (HMA). Milling is the process where the old existing road surface is removed to a specific depth for resurfacing.

In addition to the resurfacing projects, a passing relief lane on the south side of B Drive North will be added at 9 Mile Road, a right turn lane will be added for southbound Beadle Lake Road at B Drive North and a right turn lane for Harper Village Drive on to B Drive North will be added beginning in June.

The federal aid projects are expected to cost $808,672. The road department is responsible for about $161,734.

During the B Drive North project, the stretch of road from 8 1/2 Mile Road to 11 Mile Road will be open to local traffic only. All other motorists should use the detour route. Please use caution while travelling.
